Nepal Diaries: Abhishek’s Family Adventure with Thrillophilia!
Planning a family trip is never easy, especially when you’re trying to cater to everyone’s interests—parents, my little daughter, and my adventure-loving wife. After much deliberation, Nepal emerged as the perfect destination, promising a mix of serenity, adventure, and culture.
The real cherry on top, I would say, was Thrillophilia’s meticulously crafted Nepal packages, ticking off every preference on our list! Let me take you through our unforgettable journey…
Finding Peace in Lumbini
Our trip began in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. My parents, who are deeply spiritual, had been wanting to visit this stunning destination for years. As we walked around the Maya Devi Temple, my mother clasped her hands in prayer, whispering, “This feels so peaceful.”
My daughter, however, had other priorities. “Papa, look! Ducks!” she squealed, running toward the ponds. It was amusing to see her excitement about the little things. Meanwhile, my wife clicked endless pictures, trying to capture every detail of the sacred site.
We spent a quiet evening, soaking in the tranquillity of the monasteries. In my opinion, it was the perfect start to our journey, grounding us with a sense of calm.
Roaring Adventures in Chitwan National Park
Chitwan was where the real excitement kicked in. “We’re going on a jungle safari!” I told my daughter, who immediately began jumping around, yelling, “Elephants! Tigers!”
The safari itself was nothing short of thrilling. Sitting in an open jeep, we drove through dense forests, spotting rhinos, deer, and exotic birds. At one point, our guide signalled us to stay quiet, pointing toward a distant tiger paw print. My wife whispered, “This is straight out of a Nat Geo documentary!”
The highlight, however, was the elephant ride. My daughter couldn’t stop giggling as the gentle giant swayed through the forest. My father, surprisingly, seemed just as excited, constantly asking the mahout questions about the elephant.
Dinner that evening was special too—a traditional Tharu cultural show along with some authentic Nepalese delicacies. My mother joined the performers for a dance, while my wife and I laughed till our stomachs hurt.
Pokhara: A Scenic Wonderland
Pokhara was like stepping into a postcard. Surrounded by mountains and dotted with serene lakes, it had something for every traveller of every age.
“Dad, look at the mountains! They’re so big!” my daughter exclaimed as we arrived. She was mesmerized by the Annapurna range, while my wife and I couldn’t get over how beautiful Phewa Lake looked.
We took a boat ride on the lake, and my daughter insisted on trying to row. “I’m the captain now!” she declared, making all of us laugh. My parents, meanwhile, were content simply enjoying the view and soaking it all in.
The adventure continued with paragliding. While my parents watched from the ground, cheering us on, my wife and I soared through the sky. “This is insane!” she shouted mid-flight. “We’re literally flying!”
Kathmandu: A Cultural Feast
Kathmandu felt like diving into history and culture at the same time. Our sightseeing tour in Kathmandu started with Pashupatinath Temple, where my parents were absolutely lost in their devotion. My father, a history enthusiast, kept sharing facts about the temple. “Do you know this is one of the holiest Shiva temples in the world?” he asked us, his voice filled with pride.
Next was Boudhanath Stupa. My wife and I marvelled at its grandeur, while my daughter was more interested in spinning the prayer wheels. “What are these for?” she asked. “They’re for making wishes,” I told her, and she immediately spun every wheel in sight, wishing for all the chocolates and toys in the world.
Thamel’s bustling streets were another highlight. My wife and mother went crazy shopping for souvenirs and Tibetan jewellery, while my daughter and I devoured momos at almost every corner stall. “These are the best momos ever!” she declared, her face smeared with chilli sauce.
Wrapping Up in Style
Our final stops, Nagarkot and Chandragiri Hills, were all about breathtaking views and quiet moments.
In Nagarkot, we woke up early to catch the sunrise. My wife and I sipped tea on the hotel balcony watching the sky slowly change its colour, revealing the Himalayan peaks in all their glory. “This is better than any movie,” she said, leaning on my shoulder.
Chandragiri Hills added a dash of thrill to the serenity. We took a cable car ride to the top, and my daughter was ecstatic. “It’s like a flying box!” she exclaimed, pressing her face against the glass. At the summit, the panoramic views left us speechless. My father said, “This makes all the walking worth it,” and we all agreed!
Unforgettable Memories
Looking back, this trip was everything we had hoped for and so much more. From the spiritual vibes of Lumbini to the thrilling adventures in Chitwan, the serenity of Pokhara, and the cultural richness of Kathmandu, every moment was special and has been etched in our hearts forever.
As we boarded our flight home, my daughter asked, “Can we come back here next year?” My wife smiled and said, “Why not? There’s still so much left to explore.”
I believe Nepal isn’t just a destination, it’s an experience that stays with you. And for us, it was the perfect family getaway.
