To Marvels and Monuments: Rutupurna’s Rajasthan, Agra, and Delhi Trip with Thrillophilia

Rutupurna is a huge Bollywood fan, and recently, she’s been rewatching all the old movies she loved. One day, while watching Delhi-6, she felt like she was actually transported to the streets of Old Delhi. She was captivated by the busy markets, the rich history, and the lively atmosphere full of people laughing and having fun. She missed India, so she decided to plan a trip with her brother and mother during the upcoming holidays.

She had already chosen one destination, but she also wanted to explore other cities. Considering her limited time, she settled on India’s Golden Triangle, a popular route that connects three amazing cities with rich experiences and unique places to visit - Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. Their special focus was on Jaipur, the Pink City, due to its reputation for hosting some of the world-famous historical monuments.

When Rutupurna shared the news of the trip, her mother was thrilled to return to India, missing its lively culture and warm social connections despite enjoying London’s comfort. Her brother was equally excited, especially about visiting Jaipur. As a photography lover, he’d always wanted to explore the city’s rich heritage and capture its stunning landmarks.

The Land of Richest History

In Delhi, they first went to the symbol of honour and pride - India Gate, where they marvelled at the grand architecture and the memorial to soldiers who died in World War I. They also visited Jantar Mantar, an ancient astronomical observatory, where they were amazed by the intricate stone instruments used to measure the time and position of stars. The scientific structures mesmerised all of them as they were centuries old yet so appropriate in the present time as well. 

In Agra, the family stood in awe before the magnificent Sikandra tomb, made of red sandstone and marble, built by Emperor Akbar himself. The tomb’s serene gardens and detailed carvings told the story of a ruler’s legacy, and the family soaked in the history of the place.

A visit to Agra is incomplete without witnessing the beautiful Taj Mahal and relishing in the wonder that it is! Like every visitor and tourist, at the Mahal, Rutupurna and her family were struck by the sheer beauty and grandeur of the monument. Standing before the gleaming white marble, they felt that love can make you do powerful things just like this amazing creation by Emperor Shah Jahan and his devotion to his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The intricate carvings, the shimmering reflection in the surrounding pools, and the peaceful gardens all added to the monument’s magic.

The Highlight- Jaipur

The highlight of their journey was the City of Royals - Jaipur, where they were equally mesmerized by the City Palace, a stunning blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture. The intricate courtyards and royal rooms brought the past to life. At the Amber Fort, they explored the opulent halls and ramparts, imagining the grand processions and royal life that once thrived there.

Then they visited the iconic Hawa Mahal, the "Palace of Winds," where the beautiful latticework windows let in a cool breeze and provided an unforgettable view of the bustling city below. 

Their exploration and learning about the incredible history filled them with awe and fascination, providing a better understanding of the rooted traditions that shaped these remarkable cities.

Their most memorable experience was at Chokhi Dhani, a cultural village that offers a glimpse into Rajasthan's rich heritage, and they savoured the mouth-watering Dal Batti Churma. The family was immersed in the traditional Rajasthani culture, with folk dances, camel rides, and local crafts on display. The rustic charm of Chokhi Dhani with its mud huts, colourful décor, and lively performances gave them a true taste of Rajasthan’s vibrant culture.

Street Food & Street Shopping

From the narrow maze-like streets of Chandni Chowk to the colourful bazaars of Jaipur, Rutupurna’s trip was a delightful journey through some of the most vibrant markets and mouthwatering food spots in India. In Delhi, they tried famous street food like parathas from the legendary Paranthe Wali Gali, where crispy, stuffed parathas were served with a variety of chutneys and curries.

They also tried the spicy chole bhature and enjoyed delicious Kebabs near Jama Masjid. The bustling markets were a feast for the senses—vibrant colours, aromatic spices, and the endless hum of activity. They also shopped for some souvenirs to cherish this street forever!

In Agra, the family couldn’t resist trying petha, a local sweet made from ash gourd, and enjoyed it at the famous Petha Wala. They also had a memorable meal at a rooftop restaurant with a view of the Taj Mahal, savouring mughlai biryani and kebabs.

Jaipur was equally delightful, with its unique blend of food and shopping. They also enjoyed strolling in the famous Bapu Bazaar and filled their bags with traditional attires, juttis (footwear) and handicrafts. The blend of delicious food, traditional experiences, and vibrant shopping made the trip unforgettable.

Rutupurna’s trip could be summarised as “A journey through India’s heart, where history, culture, and family create memories that last a lifetime."
