Sheetal’s Journey into Nature’s Embrace in Meghalaya with Thrillophilia

As Sheetal looked out of the window, her eyes widened with amazement at the emerald landscape unfolding before her. Beside her, her husband and their friends leaned back and posed a relaxed smile as he took in the view while being comfortable in the plush seats of the vehicle.

“It is beautiful,” she whispered, barely able to contain her excitement.

“Meghalaya always seemed like a dream,” he replied. “Now we are actually here, and it is even better that we are exploring it together.”

Whispers of Waterfalls and Emerald Valleys

Their adventure had started two days earlier, winding their way through Shillong and absorbing the city’s mix of tranquillity and chaos. But today was different; today, they would dive deeper, travelling to Cherrapunjee via Wei Sawdong Falls. The morning air was crisp as they set off.

Their first stop was Elephant Falls. As they stepped out, the sound of rushing water greeted them with the sweet fragrance of pine trees and damp earth. Sheetal’s heart raced as they approached the falls because the cascading waters created a majestic backdrop against the lush greenery.

“Oh, look at that!” Sheetal gasped, holding onto her husband’s arm.

“Are you going to say that about every place we visit?” her friend jokingly asked.

“I might,” she grinned with twinkling eyes.

From Elephant Falls, they drove on to Mawkdok Dympep Viewpoint. As soon as they arrived, the vast V-shaped valley stretched before them while the hills were blanketed in green on either side. The entire scenery looked like a magical painting, each stroke brought to life with vibrant colours and soft rolling curves.

“Let us take a photo here,” her husband suggested, pulling out his phone.

Sheetal wrapped her arms around him, both of them laughing as the wind tangled their hair. The world felt endless here. Every peak and valley held a secret they could barely grasp.

But the adventure had only begun. After Mawkdok Dympep, they continued to Wei Sawdong Falls. The trail was rough but short, just a 200-metre hike. As they made their way down, the sounds of rushing water grew louder until they finally stood before the three-tiered falls.

“Wow,” Sheetal breathed.

“Now this,” their friend said, “is what we came here for.”

They were captivated by the beauty of the waterfalls. As they took in each tier of cascading water, flowing like liquid silk over the rocks, a feeling of serenity washed over them. It was as though time had paused and left them in a world far removed from everything else.

They continued with more breathtaking sights - the Nohkalikai Falls and the Seven Sisters’ Falls. Finally, they explored the Mawsmai and Arwah caves, where fossils embedded in the walls glistened under soft and warm lights.

That night, as they lay in their hotel in Cherrapunjee, Sheetal told her husband, “Today felt like we were travelling through nature’s own art gallery.”

“More than that,” he replied thoughtfully. “It felt like we were part of it.”

A Glimpse into Mawlynnong’s Timeless Charm

It was another day of their Meghalaya trip, and they could not control their excitement. It held a promise that Sheetal had been looking forward to - MAWLYNNONG, the cleanest village in Asia. When they arrived, they saw that the pathways were lined with blooming flowers and every corner seemed meticulously cleaned.

“I have never seen a place so pristine,” Sheetal said.

A local guide approached them and offered a tour. While walking, he told them about the village’s commitment to cleanliness, the pride the villagers took in maintaining it, and the story of Mawlynnong’s rise to fame.

“It is inspiring,” Sheetal whispered to her husband, “how they have made sustainability a way of life here.”

The Magic of Meghalaya’s Hidden Gems

After resting for the night in Mawlynnong, they woke up to a glorious sunrise over the East Khasi hills that painted the sky in shades of pink and orange. After breakfast, they set out for Krang Suri Waterfalls, which is reputed to be one of the most magical waterfalls in India.

Krang Suri was a sight to behold - tall, with water spilling down in a mesmerizing arc, forming a natural pool at the base. Sheetal felt a tug at her heart as she took in the scene.

“I have to go in,” she declared, laughing as she took off her shoes and stepped into the pool.

Her husband followed, the cool water refreshing against their skin as they waded in, surrounded by the lush greenery. For a moment, they stood together in silence and let the roaring of the waterfall drown out everything but the feeling of being utterly alive.

On their way back to Shillong, they took a detour to Laitlum Canyons. As they stood at the cliff’s edge and looked out at the endless landscape, Sheetal thought of all the beauty they had encountered over the past days.

“Places like this… they change you, don’t they?” she asked, her voice barely audible.

He nodded, wrapping his arm around her. “They make you see the world with new eyes.”
