Dhruv’s Romantic Retreat in New Zealand with Thrillophilia

Hello, wanderlust souls!

My friends lovingly call me Bunny (yes, like the free-spirited Ranbir Kapoor character from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), thanks to my insatiable love for travel. But unlike Bunny, I’ve already found my perfect Naina— Arushi, my better half and travel companion who shares my passion for exploring the world.

This time, our compass pointed to New Zealand, a land of surreal beauty and endless adventure. With Thrillophilia’s expert help, we curated a dreamy itinerary that captured the essence of this enchanting country. From serene lakes to adrenaline-pumping escapades, here’s a glimpse into our journey.

Serenity and Stars

Our first stop was Lake Tekapo, a truly postcard-perfect destination where turquoise waters meet rolling hills. Trust me, the sheer tranquility of the lake is enough to make you pause and soak in the beauty.

We began our day with a leisurely stroll along the lake’s edge, marveling at the reflection of snow-capped peaks in the water. Later, we treated ourselves to a dip in the Tekapo Springs hot pools. Let me tell you, there’s nothing more rejuvenating than soaking in warm, mineral-rich waters while gazing at the surrounding mountains. Arushi joked that the springs were her “spa with a view,” and I couldn’t agree more.

For lunch, we stopped by a lakeside café, where we devoured freshly grilled salmon and a heavenly chocolate dessert. As the day faded into night, we visited the famous Mount John Observatory to witness the most star-studded sky we’d ever seen. Under the dazzling Milky Way, Arushi whispered, “This feels like a dream,” and I silently vowed to make more of her dreams come true.

The Underground Magic

The next highlight of our trip was the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, a natural wonder that felt like stepping into a fantasy novel. A friendly guide led us through the limestone caverns, sharing fascinating stories about the formation of the caves and the bioluminescent glowworms that call it home.

The real magic began when we boarded a small boat and floated silently through the underground river. Thousands of tiny glowworms illuminated the cave ceiling like a starry night sky. “This is nature’s fairy lights,” Arushi exclaimed, her eyes wide with wonder.

The ethereal glow cast a soft light on her face, and for a moment, I forgot about the world outside. If you ever visit New Zealand, don’t miss this enchanting experience— it’s like being transported to another realm.

Adventures in Paradise

Next, we headed to Abel Tasman National Park, a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Our day began with a guided hike along the coastal track, where lush forests gave way to golden beaches and turquoise waters. Arushi, armed with her camera, couldn’t stop capturing the beauty around us.

After the hike, we indulged in some snorkeling at a secluded cove. The underwater world was vibrant with colourful fishes and playful seals. At one point, Arushi tried to mimic a seal’s movements, and I couldn’t stop laughing.

We ended our day with a picnic on the beach, watching the sun dip below the horizon. The park’s serene beauty and thrilling activities made it one of our favourite stops.

Touching the Sky

Mount Cook National Park was where we truly felt the grandeur of New Zealand’s landscapes. Surrounded by towering peaks and glacial valleys, we embarked on the Hooker Valley Track, a relatively easy hike with jaw-dropping views at every turn.

The highlight was reaching the glacier lake, where chunks of ice floated serenely in the turquoise water. Arushi dipped her hand in and quickly pulled it out, laughing at how icy it was.

We also visited the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre, where we learned about the legendary mountaineer’s connection to this region. That evening, we toasted to our adventurous spirits with a glass of local wine, basking in the beauty of Mount Cook under the setting sun.

Adrenaline Overload: Skydiving, Caving, and Off-Roading

No trip to New Zealand is complete without a dose of adrenaline, and we made sure to dive headfirst into adventure.

Our skydiving experience was nothing short of epic. As we soared above Queenstown, the panoramic views of mountains, lakes, and valleys took our breath away. Jumping out of the plane was a surreal mix of fear and exhilaration. “I can’t believe we just did that!” Arushi screamed mid-freefall, her laughter echoing in the wind.

Next, we explored the Waitomo Black Water Rafting adventure, navigating underground rivers and waterfalls in pitch darkness. Armed with wetsuits and inner tubes, we floated beneath glowworm-lit ceilings, feeling like explorers in a hidden world.

Finally, we tried off-roading in Rotorua, driving through rugged terrains and muddy trails. The thrill of maneuvering through challenging paths and splashing through puddles left us grinning from ear to ear.
